Services - Support and OutreachSupport Services
Jane’s Place is a nonprofit organization and the designated Child Advocacy Center for Allegany County. As a Child Advocacy Center or CAC, we provide a safe, child-friendly facility where victims (ages 0-17) of abuse, assault or neglect may be interviewed and recorded, undergo forensic medical examinations, and receive therapy services. Collaboration is key at Jane’s Place. Our staff support and coordinate with officials from child protective services, law enforcement, medical and mental health providers, prosecution, and Allegany County’s Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) during the investigation and prosecution process. By working together, we ensure that child victims and their families are given the resources they need during an incredibly difficult time. Crime Victim Advocate Jane's Place, Inc. would like to welcome our Crime Victim Advocate, Shirley Jensen to the office building. Shirley now has an office located inside Jane's Place, Inc. so that she may serve our clients better. Shirley advocates for the victim(s) and the families of the victims. Welcome Shirley Jensen to our center! |

Benefits of a Child Advocacy Center |
Interview Process
Our interviewers conduct victim-sensitive forensic interviews that follow best practices. The interviews are recorded using state-of-the-art equipment and later transcribed. By interviewing victims only once, we help reduce secondary trauma associated with multiple interviews.
Medical Examinations
Our highly trained medical staff provide complete medical evaluations. The exams are noninvasive (not harmful), and non-offending parents or caretakers may be present. Exams, lab work, and x-ray services are provided at WMHS. Jane's Place staff can coordinate with WMHS staff to schedule your child's exam and help you through the process.
Family and Court Advocacy
Our advocates guide families through the investigation process, from needs assessment to court proceedings. Special attention is provided to help children and adolescents navigate this overwhelming process.
Investigation and Prosecution
Our professionals from child protective services, law enforcement, and the State's Attorney's Office work together to investigate and prosecute child abuse cases.
Follow-Up Services
To help end the cycle of abuse, we're committed to providing access to follow-up services to victims and their families. Our therapists associated with our partner agencies are highly skilled in working victims of abuse at our CAC.
